Today I biked up to Prospect Hill and found a good spot to take one of the photographs I always wanted to take since the first day I came to the US. These sprawling power lines that run from house to house are to me deeply connected to the US. As far as I can remember I haven’t seen places like this that look so much as if giant spiders had spun their webs all over the place. Putting power lines above ground seems to make them more easily accessible for maintenance, but at the same time exposes them more strongly to the elements, which in turn seems to cause a good deal of maintenance work. I lost count of how often the maintenance guys turned up in our street so far to fix something and during my first week here the whole apartment building didn’t have power for a whole night.
